The Speed Art Museum is the oldest art museum in the state, and certainly has some amazing exhibits to show for it. Plus, the Louisville Science Center is an exciting hands-on science museum fun for kids and adults alike. Performance art is big here too, with weekly performances by the Louisville Orchestra and the Actors Theatre of Louisville. Another great attraction is the summer Kentucky Shakespeare Festival, where outdoor performances of the great playwright's work engage people of all ages.
Speaking of parks, Louisville is known as the 'City of Parks' and certainly has some excellent outdoor spaces to explore. Be sure to head over to Cherokee Park where you can see the Hogan Fountain Pavilion, an important Louisville landmark. The Waterfront Park, downtown, is an excellent greenway area coupled with some innovative urban renewal project to help bring some life back to the downtown area. It has worked, and great local shops and restaurants have popped up all over the city. The foodie scene is great here, with local offerings from the new American gastropup The Blind Pig to the Ethiopian Queen of Sheba to the classic Kentucky Hillbilly Tea. Of course, you should also head down to the Brown Hotel to try out a Hot Brown sandwich, a Louisville staple, so you know what to expect of this excellent sandwich.
